GAME OF STONES
FAQ
Overview:
The Game of Stones (GoS) format builds off of the tag-line from the hit movie, Highlander: “There Can Be Only One!”. While it is also a play on words on the “Game of Thrones”; the rise to royalty highlighted in that series also creates the format for the GoS.
This is to say, while the King/Queen sits alone on the throne, and there is only one, how they got ‘there’ involves all manner of strategy, team-play, AND individual skill (and maybe just a bit of ‘skullduggery’). Those individuals rose to royalty knowing how and when to strike. The more successful King/Queens experienced the highs and lows, the labours, the wins and losses…from all sides of life…and through personal perseverance, rose above it all to claim the Throne as THE ONLY ONE!
On the ice then:
Format:
The format for GoS is that through a series of 4 mini-games, each candidate (player) to be King or Queen will have a chance to play every position with 4 different teams on 4 different sheets. After each mini-game, a single increasingly harder skill-shot will be attempted by each player and the results of that shot will be scored accordingly. There will be 4 such challenging skill-shots. Between games 2 and 3, lunch will be served.
Scoring:
While the mini-games themselves play as normal curling games including the scoring, each candidate will play their part in contributing to the success of their community. Each candidate on the team will also carry the successes or defeats, the scars of battle, and the scores of those games on their own individual Score Cards. This individual scoring will also include the results of the games AND the 4 skill shots.
IF at the end of the 4 mini-games there are ties, head-to-head Combat will ensue (aka, draw to the button) to determine the overall Game of Stones Champion.
